Open letter to Couchsurfing Inc. after their introduction of the paywall

Hello!

With the recent introduced paywall to Couchsurfing you (Couchsurfing) made a terrible decision under the disguise of a pandemic disease to legitimate your greed for money. There are many networks that function without this paywall and your decision to implement this is showing that you would rather sacrifice your users and the community than your lust for money.
Your argument that you have to ask for money to ‘save’ the community is disproved by all the websites that manage to do without. It only shows even more clearly that you do not care for the people but only about your financial well-being.
I am sad and frustrated seeing you argument with exactly the opposite in your statement as you again try to fool the community and your users for your own good.
I believe that this will not do any good and that the people that are actually contributing to the quality of the experience will turn away from you.

I am leaving you after many years and I do not plan to come back. I would rather invest my social energy in more open platforms that do not need money to support those that share altruistically.

I am disgusted and I hope this reaches to somewhere else then to just you, dear support team. I am also volunteering for a support team of another – similar but free – website and I know that it is not necessaryly your fault.

As I can not access my account to delete it since I would have to pay even for that – showing once more what it is that you care about – I hereby withdraw my consent for you to collect, process or store any personal data related to, and belonging to #############.
Pursuant to my rights under Article 17 GDPR I request that you delete
any and all related data.

Please note that I am not looking for instructions on how to delete my
account, I want you to delete all my data due to this request.

Thank you!
