This chrisis is not a chance

We have been longing for a fair/just/whatever world since too long to claim that it is only now after this crisis that we have to change something. Since decades and longer different groups (if you want you can categorize them like women*, indigenous people, people of color, …) have been demanding change and most probably will have to demand it in the future. What we learn from this crisis is rather that a crisis is not(!) what will change that state of affairs. It is us as people who have to change things.

Now as much as before we have to demand freedom and equal right for everyone. To wake up from the dream that this crisis will be a changebringer. History teaches us that the capital is much more eager to save it’s ass then we are and we have to reverse that proportion. We have to be more eager to claim our rights and freedom then the capital.

This goes with working towards solidarity. To figure out, that there’s humans next to you and not machines or numbers. Start to get to know your neighbors. Show empathy to even the ones that hate you. Build trust in your social surroundings. And whatever we do, we have to be aware that it will take time.

This crisis is fast, is quick, one, maybe two years and most of the machine is back to it’s status quo. It is by far not destructive enough. Losing privilege will be painful suffering for those who have it and will most likely lead to people dying, especially those, that don’t have any. That is not a better place. Not one that I want to be in.

What I want to be in is a world with growing trust. Over many years. Strong sense of togetherness and companionship with everyone around you. We won’t be getting that out of this crisis.

I dislike seeing the crisis as ‘chance’ as this reminds me so much of the neoliberals that see anything as ‘chance’ (and not as fuck-up) and them utilizing, exploiting, commercializing and salvaging everything for their own benefit out of it regardles of the ones that suffer though it.

It’s a disaster and should be more of a wakeup call for the ones that had resigned or have been drifting towards said neoliberals, because they saw their resignation as a chance to win them over.
